Caring for Your Artwork.

Thankfully it is very easy to care for your beloved art, to ensure its longevity... and viewing pleasure is enjoyed for a ridiculously long time!

Here are the essentials:

Unframed:

  • Keep unframed paper prints in a dry place, water can cause marks/damage.
  • Canvas prints can tolerate small amounts of plain water for the purposes of spot cleaning (no chemicals) due to a spray laminated surface.
  • Store unframed prints rolled in a sealable tube, in acid free paper. (Small prints may be easier to store flat).

Handling:

  • Handle with care to avoid kinks, bends or scratches.
  • Treat your art like a precious old photograph, where your fingerprints could leave marks and cause staining over time, from the skin's oils. Hold the edges/white borders, or preferably, wear gloves.

Framing:

  • Choosing a professional framer ensures high quality materials are used to ensure the longevity of your peice. Consider museum quality glass for the best UV protection.
  • Not everyone can afford this option, so if you would rather do the the framing yourself, choose good quality acid free products, for best results.

Hanging:

  • Do not display your artwork where it will receive direct sunlight, UV light, or other source of strong lighting. These can affect your artwork over time.
  • Ensure your wall mount, is safe, damage free and will hold the weight of your piece comfortably. If you are not sure, better to replace a picture hook, than an expensive piece of art!
  • Inspect the hanging fixture on the back of your frame, before hanging. To be sure, to be sure!

Maintenance.

  • Inspect wall fixtures/hanging apparatus from time to time.
  • Dust & spot clean your frames/glass & canvases as needed, (with a small amount of water only, and preferrably a soft, lint free cloth).

I hope that these easy steps, give you confidence in caring for your artwork,

and knowledge that following them, you will be enjoying your art for many decades!
