New Puppy!

Meet Finan, the 8 week old Whippet, and newest member of the family!

We have been waiting for the longest time, and so excited he’s finally arrived. I wasn’t quite ready for the amount of energy he has, as everyone talks about how lazy Whippets are! I thought I would still be able to get a lot of work done during the day, but he doesn’t sleep a lot during the day at all! He is so intelligent, and learns things so quickly. He seems like an absolute genius compared to my last dog, a boxer. We haven’t even had him a week and he knows his name, is toilet trained, sits when asked, works for food, is used to having his collar and leash attached, has worked out how to get in and out of the van by himself, is playing fetch, and is starting to respond well to things we disapprove of.

There’s a lot of puppy chewing and biting going on, but that’s all part of the process, and we’re enjoying turning those ‘annoying’ things into opportunities, like encouraging him to use a Kong (food filled chew toy) or redirecting into games that reinforce the things he IS allowed to chew on. He is super adventurous, and confident, yet loyally stays close to me and loves to sleep with at least one paw touching me! He is everything we dreamed he would be. I definitely see more Whippets in our future!

Hopefully as he settles in, my productivity will be back to normal!
